4 Nickâs Brigadoon
After an evening spent filling out forms and a restless night of nightmares involving hideous creatures turning his line truck over with him in it and then attacking the villagers, he awoke exhausted and covered in perspiration.
A bright new day full of promise greeted him; as he threw open the curtains. He turned on the radio and checked the weather forecast. The high for the day was to be 20° Celsius with an easterly breeze of about 18 to 20 kilometres per hour, perfect for working in the bush. He washed, dressed and went to the Only Hope Restaurant to pick up his morning double, double climbed into his rubber-tracked utility vehicle or UTV and set out for the job site.
Twenty minutes later he arrived at his work site and pulled up beside the digger derrick. Nick had his mouth set for a couple of delicious biscuits left for him every morning. He found it somehow comforting to know that someone appreciated what he was doing. Opening the truck cab door he looked on the seat, the usual location, but was let down when he found the cab bare. He searched his truck thoroughly and came up empty-handed. âThat was both disappointing and disconcertingly odd.â He thought to himself. âWell, Iâll just have to take an early lunch.â He said under his breath.

After setting the next pole in place he climbed into the utility vehicle and headed back to The Last Resort and the Only Hope Restaurant for lunch.
He ordered a Road Kill burger and fries and washed it all down with a large Muddy Water (chocolate) milkshake. Then he had the waitress fill his water bottle with ice water and left. All the way, back to his truck he had the uneasy feeling something was wrong in the village. He made up his mind that he would pay them a visit after work.
Within three feet the auger hit a boulder which had to be removed or drill a new hole. The engineer had marked this spot for the pole so he decided to pull the auger up and remove the obstacle. He climbed into the mini excavator and after about an hour and a half his efforts were rewarded. He rolled the one-and-a-half-ton boulder into the bushes and set to work preparing the hole for the pole. By four oâclock he had the pole in and set. It was time to pay the village, a visit so he mounted the utility vehicle and set out to check on the village.
Within twenty minutes he reached the outskirts of the village of Thelost nestled along the shores of Gonemissing Lake. He could see the silhouettes of the tiny cabins as the sun began to
